Life in Tallinn has become very expensive, considering the income level. The average salary in Estonia is 900 euros gross, less 21% taxes, which makes 700 euros net income per month or 170 euros per week. Third of that goes on gas, the rest on living costs. An average employee buys almost nothing for pleasure. Prices are high because there is not enough demand - with only 600.000 tax payers in the country what you get is merchants who add a high margin and don't carry a large stock. It is cold outside. As my winter clothes still have not arrived in the container, already for a month, I have to buy boots. A shoe store in Solaris carries only one pair of every size and they don't have my size. That pair of boots costs 79 euros, 1/7th of an average monthly salary. Pic taken @ Seaplane Port (Lennusadam).
